DARK MATTERS: Pinhole Images (Black and White Digital Prints)

I am fascinated by the combination of both geometry and distortion together in my art. Although I love bright colors, I also like the challenge of a limited palette of black, white, and gray.

In this series, I use various pinhole cameras to create black and white images on paper or film. Because pinhole cameras have no lenses and are often made from a cardboard oatmeal box or a plain wooden box, the images produce strange perspectives, odd curves, and compressed lines.  Sometimes there is the appearance of a ghostlike figure.  Trees which blow in the wind make their own patterns. I like the vagueness of the weird urban landscapes that result. Strangely, to me, they capture the essence of each location.

After I take the and develop the negative, I scan them and print them in their original negative tones. Each one is printed on archival museum rag paper.

I hope you feel as if you want to walk into each new place I’ve created.

All of these images are also now available printed on 24" x30" archival paper.
